The carpet fitter

August 12, 2024 0 Comments

Eddie was a carpet fitter, and he hated it.

For ten years he had spent his days sitting, squatting, kneeling or crawling on floors, in houses, offices, shops, factories and restaurants.

Ten years of his life, cutting and fitting carpets for other people to walk on, without even seeing them.

When his work was done, no-one ever appreciated it.

No- one ever said "Oh, that's a beautiful job, the carpet fits so neatly." They just walked all over it.

Eddie was sick of it.

He was especially sick of it on this hot, humid day in August, as he worked to put the finishing touches to today's job.

He was just cutting and fixing the last edge on a huge red carpet which he had fitted in the living room of Mrs. Vanbrugh's house.

Rich Mrs. Vanbrugh, who changed her carpets every year, and always bought the best. Rich Mrs. Vanbrugh, who had never even given him a cup of tea all day, and who made him go outside when he wanted to smoke.

Ah well, it was four o'clock and he had nearly finished. At least he would be able to get home early today.

He began to day-dream about the weekend, about the Saturday football game he always played for the local team, where he was known as "Ed the Head" for his skill in heading goals from corner kicks.

Eddie sat back and sighed. The job was done, and it was time for a last cigarette.

He began tapping the pockets of his overalls, looking for the new packet of Marlboro he had bought that morning. They were not there.

It was as he swung around to look in his toolbox for the cigarettes that Eddie saw the lump.

Right in the middle of the brand new bright red carpet, there was a lump. A very visible lump.

A lump the size of -- the size of a packet of cigarettes.

"Blast!" said Eddie angrily. "I've done it again! I've left the cigarettes under the blasted carpet!"

He had done this once before, and taking up and refitting the carpet had taken him two hours.

Eddie was determined that he was not going to spend another two hours in this house. He decided to get rid of the lump another way.

It would mean wasting a good packet of cigarettes, nearly full, but anything was better than taking up the whole carpet and fitting it again. He turned to his toolbox for a large hammer.

Holding the hammer, Eddie approached the lump in the carpet.

He didn't want to damage the carpet itself, so he took a block of wood and placed it on top of the lump.

Then he began to beat the block of wood as hard as he could.

He kept beating, hoping Mrs. Vanbrugh wouldn't hear the noise and come to see what he was doing. It would be difficult to explain why he was hammering the middle of her beautiful new carpet.

After three or four minutes, the lump was beginning to flatten out.

Eddie imagined the cigarette box breaking up, and the crushed cigarettes spreading out under the carpet.

Soon, he judged that the lump was almost invisible.

Clearing up his tools, he began to move the furniture back into the living room, and he was careful to place one of the coffee tables over the place where the lump had been, just to make sure that no-one would see the spot where his cigarettes had been lost.

Finally, the job was finished, and he called Mrs. Vanbrugh from the dining room to inspect his work.

"Yes, dear, very nice," said the lady, peering around the room briefly. "You'll be sending me a bill, then?"

"Yes madam, as soon as I report to the office tomorrow that the job is done." Eddie picked up his tools, and began to walk out to the van.

Mrs. Vanbrugh accompanied him. She seemed a little worried about something.

"Young man," she began, as he climbed into the cab of his van, laying his toolbox on the passenger seat beside him, "while you were working today, you didn't by any chance see any sign of Armand, did you? Armand is my parakeet.

A beautiful bird, just beautiful, such colors in his feathers... I let him out of his cage, you see, this morning, and he's disappeared.

He likes to walk around the house, and he's so good, he usually just comes back to his cage after an hour or so and gets right in.

Only today he didn't come back. He's never done such a thing before, it's most peculiar..."

"No, madam, I haven't seen him anywhere," said Eddie, as he reached to start the van.

And saw his packet of Marlboro cigarettes on the dashboard, where he had left it at lunchtime....

And remembered the lump in the carpet....

And realised what the lump was....

     And remembered the hammering....

And began to feel rather sick....

The chocking dog

"Come on, come on, move it, idiot!"

Joanne beat impatiently on the steering wheel of her Mercedes sports car. How stupid to get caught up in the rush hour!

She had planned to leave work early this afternoon, at three o'clock, to give herself a chance to relax and have a bath before going out to a meeting of her local tennis club.

But just at ten to three a client had arrived, and it was two hours before she had finished dealing with the man. When she came out of her office, all the other staff in the Highlight Advertising Agency had already left.

Now she was stuck in a traffic jam in central Birmingham at 5:30, and at 6:30 she was expected to be chairing a meeting of the tennis club. There would be no time for any hot bath.

Ahead of her, the traffic was moving at last, and she swung quickly out into the centre lane to turn right, and raced the last half-mile through the quiet suburban streets to her house.

Pulling up on the driveway, she leapt out of the car and ran for the house. As she opened the door, she nearly tripped over Sheba, who was standing behind it.

"Hey, Sheba, hello," she said, bending down to stroke the large alsatian dog's head, "I've got no time for you now, but I'll take you out as soon as I get back from the tennis club."

It was then that she noticed something worrying about the dog. Sheba seemed to be coughing or choking, her stomach pumping repeatedly as if she was trying to vomit something up.

She was obviously in real discomfort and could hardly breathe; her sad eyes gazed up at Joanne helplessly.

"Oh damn, this is all I need now," said Joanne to herself, dropping her briefcase and bending down to take a closer look, "a sick dog, today of all days!"

On closer examination, Sheba did look very sick, and Joanne realised she would have to take her down to the vet immediately.

Luckily, the vet's surgery was only a few streets away, and Joanne quickly loaded the dog, still coughing and choking, into her car for the short drive.

When she got there, the surgery was just about to close for the day. Luckily, Dr. Sterne had not left yet, and when he saw the state of Sheba, he brought her quickly into his office.

"It looks like something is stuck in her throat," said Dr. Sterne. It shouldn't take me too long to get it out."

"Listen, doctor, I'm really in a rush to get to a meeting -- can I leave her with you, and go and get changed? I'll be back in ten minutes to pick her up, then I'll take her on to the meeting with me. Is that OK?"

"Sure," said the doctor. "You get going. I'll see you in ten minutes."

Joanne jumped back into her car again, and made the quick trip round to her house in a couple of minutes.

As she was once more entering the hallway, the phone on the table by the door began to ring.

She picked it up, annoyed by this additional interruption to her plans.

"This is Dr. Sterne," said an anxious voice. "Is that you, Joanne?"

"Of course it's me," said Joanne, surprised at the sound of his voice, "no-one else lives here."

"I want you to get right out of that house immediately," said the doctor's voice.

"Right now. I'm coming round right away, and the police will be there any time now. Wait outside for us." The phone went dead.

Joanne stared at it. She was confused, but she was also a little frightened by the obvious fear in the voice of the doctor.

She replaced the receiver, then quickly backed out of the door and ran into the street.

At that moment, a police car with its lights flashing swung round the corner and screeched to a stop outside the house.

Two policemen got out.

After briefly checking that she was the owner of the house, they ran into the house through the still open door, without explaining anything.

Joanne was by now completely confused and very frightened.

Then the doctor arrived.

"Where's Sheba? Is she OK?" shouted Joanne, running over to his car.

"She's fine, Joanne. I extracted the thing which was choking her, and she's OK now."

"Well what's this all about? Why are the police in my house?"

Just then, the two policemen reappeared from the house, half-carrying a white-faced figure, a man in a dark grey sweater and jeans, who, it seemed, could hardly walk. There was blood all over him.

"My God," said Joanne, "how did he get in there? And how did you know he was there?"

"I think he must be a burglar," said the doctor. "I knew he was there because when I finally removed what was stuck in Sheba's throat, it turned out to be three human fingers. I don't think he's a very happy burglar."

Count if you doubt...

Emperor Akbar was in the habit of putting riddles and puzzles to his courtiers.

He often asked questions which were strange and witty.

It took much wisdom to answer these questions.

Once he asked a very strange question. The courtiers were dumb folded by his question.

Akbar glanced at his courtiers.

As he looked, one by one the heads began to hang low in search of an answer.

It was at this moment that Birbal entered the courtyard.

Birbal who knew the nature of the emperor quickly grasped the situation and asked, "May I know the question so that I can try for an answer?".

Akbar said, "How many crows are there in this city?"

Without even a moment's thought, Birbal replied "There are fifty thousand five hundred and eighty nine crows, my lord".

"How can you be so sure?" asked Akbar.

Birbal said, "Make you men count, My lord. If you find more crows it means some have come to visit their relatives here. If you find less number of crows it means some have gone to visit their relatives elsewhere".

Akbar was pleased very much by Birbal's wit.

The free fridge.....

August 12, 2024 0 Comments

 Rikkard purchased a new fridge.

The local council wanted $20 to remove his old fridge in an environmentally friendly fashion.

So in order to save money he put it in his front garden with a sign that read, “Free to a good home. You want it, please take it.”

The fridge stood untouched for 4 days! Raymond changed his tactics.

He made a sign saying, 'Fridge for sale $50.' One day later the fridge disappeared and stolen.

Olympics....

Hello dearies.......

I am back with another story in tgis olympics season....

A few years ago at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100-yard dash.

At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win.

All that is, except one boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times and began to cry.

The other eight heard the boy. They slowed down and looked back. They all turned around and went back.

Every one of them. One girl with Down’s syndrome bent down and kissed him and said,” This will make it better.” All nine linked arms and walked across the finish line together.

Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for several minutes.

People who were there are still telling the story.

‘Why?’

‘Because deep down we know one thing. What matters most in this life is more than winning for ourselves. What truly matters in this life is helping others win, even if it means slowing down and changing our course.’

Zoo

A lorry driver is driving 200 penguins to London Zoo when his lorry breaks down on the motorway.

The driver gets out of the cab and is looking at the engine when a second lorry driver stops in front of him and asks if he needs help.

The penguins' driver explains that he is taking the penguins to the zoo and asks if the other man would take the penguins there.

He agrees.

Some hours later, the 2nd lorry driver drives past the first one, who is still waiting on the motorway.

The penguins are still on the lorry, and look happy.

"I thought I asked you to take those penguins to the zoo," shouted the first driver.

The second replied, "I did, but I had some money left, so we're going to the cinema now."

L for love, Live,laugh

October 23, 2023 0 Comments

Hello busy people, thanks for giving my writings a chance.

A for Apple,B for ball,............................................

L for love,live,laugh,....live your life to the fullest because, not many are LUCKY to live this day!!

This message is for those who are feeling worthless in this world...

Why do you feel worthless?

You are lucky Because you're alive

I know it feels nothing to have a life when you feel worthless, hopeless

And it seems all people are ignoring you, avoiding you

It feels like nothing None would want to feel like that

At those times, people even want to die instead of living hopelessly

I know that feeling Because I've gone through You just have to keep going

It's life.

Life becomes easier when you decide to become tougher...

In life there are people that will hurt us and cause us pain,

but we must learn to forgive and forget and not hold grudges.

In life there are mistakes we will make,

but we must learn from our wrongs and grow from them.

In life there are regrets we will have to live with,

but we must learn to leave the past behind and realize it is something we can't change.

In life there are people we will lose forever and can't have back,

but we must learn to let go and move on.

In life there are going to be obstacles that will cause interference,

but we must learn to overcome these challenges and grow stronger.

In life there are fears that will hold us back from what we want,

but we must learn to fight them with the courage from within.

God holds our lives in his hands. He holds the key to our future.

Only he knows our fate.

He sees everything and knows everything.

Everything in life really does happen for a reason: "God's Reason"...

Doctor!

 💧Doctors SERVICE💧

A doctor quickly entered the hospital after being called in for an urgent surgery. He changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block. He saw the boy’s father walking back and forth in the hall waiting for the doctor.

Once seeing the doctor, the dad yelled: “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have the sense of responsibility?”

The doctor smiled and said: “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I came the fastest I could… now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work.”

“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies now what will you do?” said the father angrily.

The doctor smiled again and replied: “I will say what is said in the Holy Bible ‘From dust we came and to dust we return, blessed be the name of God.’ Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go and intercede for your son, we will do our best by God’s grace.”

“Giving advice when we’re not concerned is so easy” murmured the father.

The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy, “Thank God! Your son is saved!”

And without waiting for the father’s reply he carried on his way running. “If you have any question, ask the nurse.”

“Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait some minutes so that I ask about my son’s state?” commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left.

The nurse answered: “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was in the burial when we called him for your son’s surgery.”

🤔Stay calm in all situations so you can make decisions the best you can, be it in life or business… and thank you doctors for the excellence works you do.

Frog and mountain

October 21, 2023 0 Comments

 Once upon a time,

The frogs got together and arranged a competition: who will be the first to climb a high mountain.

Other animals gathered in anticipation of the spectacle. The signal "start" sounded, and the frogs rushed to climb.

The animals below rolled with laughter:

“Look how they touch with their paws, no chance!”

- Here are stupid frogs, they only splash in the swamp!

- Yes, where are they, slipping and barely advancing!

The frogs really slipped and fell to the ground one after another. After a while, all but one lay at the foot of the mountain. Ashamed and evil.

Only one frog remained and continued to climb. And then, finally, she got up.

The animals fell silent, not believing their eyes. How did she do it, why didn't she fall down like the others?

It turned out that the frog was simply deaf.

The moral is that you can also be like this frog if you are moving towards your goal. Ignore other people's opinions and ridicule if you are going to conquer your peak.

A bell to cat

October 19, 2023 0 Comments

There was a grocery shop in a town. Plenty of mice lived in that grocery shop.

Food was in plenty for them. They ate everything and spoiled all the bags.

They also wasted the bread, biscuits and fruits of the shop.

The grocer got really worried.

So, he thought "I should buy a cat and let it stay at the grocery. Only then I can save my things."

He bought a nice, big fat cat and let him stay there. The cat had a nice time hunting the mice and killing them.

The mice could not move freely now. They were afraid that anytime the cat would eat them up.
The mice wanted to do something.

They held a meeting and all of them tweeted "We must get rid of the cat. Can someone give a suggestion"?

All the mice sat and brooded. A smart looking mouse stood up and said, "The cat moves softly. That is the problem.

If we can tie a bell around her neck, then things will be fine. We can know the movements of the cat".

“Yes, that is answer," stated all the mice. An old mouse slowly stood up and asked, "Who would tie the bell?" After some moments there was no one there to answer this question.

MORAL : Empty solutions are of no worth.

At the end, what is the most valuable......??

Love and Time

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived:
Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love.

One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left.

Except for Love.

Love was the only one who stayed.

Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment.

When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.

Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat.

 Love said,

"Richness, can you take me with you?"

Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!"

"I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.

Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you."

"Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"

Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her.

Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will take you.

" It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going.

When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way.

Realizing how much was owed the elder,

Love asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who Helped me?"

"It was Time," Knowledge answered.

"Time?" asked Love.

"But why did Time help me?"

Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered,

"Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is....

Pencil

September 19, 2023 0 Comments

Hello dearies,I'm back with another story that motivates me whenever I feel low......

Today, morning I came across a death news of a famous south Indian actor's teenage daughter, who is still a class 12th student of 16yrs age.

The news of her suicide made my day gloomy and sad, because that's the age to enjoy and cherish but not to take such foolish step.

The thought of how her parents and dear ones felt knowing this news, made me disheartened.

So,If you are having such stupid thoughts of ending your life, please end those and spend time with your family members and friends, who could support you not just physically but mentally and emotionally too.

If you come across, such persons who are mentally under pressure due to stress or various conditions, please do help them to get rid of such thoughts.....

✏️📝

PENCIL✏️

The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box.

"There are 5 things you need to know," he told the pencil, "Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be."

"One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone's hand."

"Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil."

"Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make."

"Four: The most important part of you will always be what's inside."

"And Five: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write."

The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.

Now replacing the place of the pencil with you. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.

One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.

Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems in life, but you'll need it to become a stronger person.

Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.

Four: The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside.

And Five: On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to do your duties.

Allow this parable on the pencil to encourage you to know that you are a special person and only you can fulfill the purpose to which you were born to accomplish.

Never allow yourself to get discouraged and think that your life is insignificant and cannot make a change.
