The two wolves

November 24, 2024 0 Comments

A wise old man was teaching his grandson about life.

He said, “A fight is going on inside me. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One wolf is evil—he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, greed and lies. The other is good—he is joy, peace, love, sharing, kindness and truth. This same fight is going on inside you.”

The grandson thought for a minute, and then asked, “Which wolf will win, grandfather?”

The grandfather replied, “The one you feed.”

Which wolf do we feed daily?

If we surround ourselves with negative minded people and talk negative things then we are feeding the evil wolf.

On the other hand, if we spend our time with positive people, read good books, and help people in solving their problems then we are helping the good wolf to win over the evil one.

Let us feed the good wolf. We will become more positive and happy!

Advising a fool....

November 22, 2024 0 Comments

On a mango tree in a jungle, there lived many birds.

They were happy in their small nests.

Before the onset of the rainy season, all the animal of the jungle repaired their homes.

The birds also made their homes more secure.

Many birds brought twigs and leaves and others wove their nests.

“We should also store some food for our children," chirped one of the birds.

And they collected food, until they had enough to see them through the rainy season.

They kept themselves busy preparing for the tough times.

Soon the rains came.

It was followed by thunder and lighting.

All the animals and birds stayed in their homes.

It continued raining for many days.

One day, a monkey wet in the rain came into the forest.

He sat on a branch, shivering with cold, water dripping from its body.

The poor monkey tried his best to get shelter, but in vain.

The leaves were not enough to save him from the rains.

“Brrr! It is so cold!" said the monkey.

The birds were watching all this.

They felt sorry for the monkey but there was little they could do for him.

One of them said, “Brother! Our small nests are not enough to give you shelter."

Another bird said, “All of us prepared for the rainy season. If you had, you would not be in this piteous situation."

“How dare you tell me what to do?" said the monkey, growling at the bird.

The monkey angrily pounced on the bird’s nest, tore it and threw it on the ground.

The bird and her chicks were helpless.

The poor bird thought "Fools never value good advice. It is better not to advise them."

The Sneaky Rabbit

One night, when the moon was very bright, Rabbit was resting near a pond. He was very tired and wanted to go to sleep, but he was scared the tiger was going to eat him up. Rabbit tried and tried to stay awake. He looked up at the sky and started to count the stars. Soon Rabbit was fast asleep.

Suddenly, a loud, booming voice woke him up. It was Tiger! ‘Aha! Now I’ve got you, little Rabbit! You’ll be perfect in my soup!’

Rabbit was very frightened, but he had an idea. He looked in the water and saw the reflection of the moon. It looked like a big lump of cheese. He moved his mouth, pretending to eat, and said, ‘Mmm yum yum yum yum. Ah, Tiger. I’m happy to see you. Yum yum yum. Come and share this delicious white cheese with me. Yum yum yum. I’m keeping it fresh for you in the pond.’

Tiger loved white cheese. He licked his lips. ‘Mmm yum. I can see the cheese, but how do you get it out of the pond?’ he asked.

‘Easy,’ said Rabbit. ‘I tie this stone around my foot and jump in. Do you want to try?’

Tiger tied the stone around his foot and jumped into the pond. Splash! Rabbit ran away, saying, ‘Ha ha! Now you’re the one in the soup!’

The Donkey who would sing

November 19, 2024 0 Comments

A wild donkey once lived in the woods.

He had no friends and lived all alone.

One day a jackal passing by saw the donkey.

He went up to the donkey and said, “What is the matter? Why do you look so sad my dear fellow?"

The donkey turned to the jackal and said, “I have no friends and am very lonely."

“Well, don't worry. I will be your friend from today," the jackal comforted him.

From that day, the donkey and jackal became very good friends.

They were always seen together.

One moonlit evening, the jackal and the donkey were strolling through the woods.

It was a cool and pleasant evening.

As they walked on, they came to the outskirts of a village bordering the woods.

There in front of them was a grove of fruit trees.

“Ah. Look! How wonderful and delicious the fruits look," said the donkey. “Let’s eat some of them."

They entered the grove and silently started to eat the fruits.

After eating enough, they lay under a tree happy and content.

“That was delicious, but there is something missing tonight," said the donkey.

“What is that?" asked the jackal.

“Why, music of course," answered the donkey, looking a little surprised.

The jackal asked, “Where are we going to get music from?"

The donkey said. “Don’t you know that I am an accomplished singer?"

The jackal was alarmed.

"Remember, we are in an orchard. If the farmer hears us, we will be in trouble. If you want to sing let us go away from here," he advised the donkey.

"You think I can't sing, don't you?" asked the donkey in a hurt voice.

“Wait till you hear me."

The jackal realised that the donkey was not willing to take his good advice.

He moved away and hid himself behind a clump of trees.

The donkey threw back his head and started his song.

“He …haw, hee-haw," he brayed aloud.

The farmers hearing the loud braying came rushing with sticks and gave the foolish donkey a severe beating that left the donkey feeling sore all over.

After the farmers had left, the jackal went over to his friend.

He said,“Is this the prize you won for your singing?"

“They don’t appreciate good music," replied a hurt and ashamed donkey.

The jackal replied. “This is what happens when you don’t listen to the advice given by a good friend. I hope you have learnt a lesson."

Oppurtunity

A young man wished to marry the farmer’s beautiful daughter.

He went to the farmer to ask his permission.

The farmer looked him over and said, “Son, go stand out in that field. I’m going to release three bulls, one at a time. If you can catch the tail of any one of the three bulls, you can marry my daughter.”

The young man stood in the pasture awaiting the first bull.

The barn door opened and out ran the biggest, meanest-looking bull he had ever seen.

He decided that one of the next bulls had to be a better choice than this one, so he ran over to the side and let the bull pass through the pasture out the back gate.

 The barn door opened again.

Unbelievable.

He had never seen anything so big and fierce in his life.

It stood pawing the ground, grunting and....Whatever the next bull was like, it had to be a better choice than this one.

He ran to the fence and let the bull pass through the pasture, out the back gate.

The door opened a third time.

A smile came across his face.

This was the weakest, scrawniest little bull he had ever seen.

 This one was his bull.

As the bull came running by, he positioned himself just right and jumped at just the exact moment.

He grabbed… but the bull had no tail!

Life is full of opportunities.

Some will be easy to take advantage of, some will be difficult.

But once we let them pass, those opportunities may never again be available.

So, always grab the first opportunity.

Foolish Imitation

November 01, 2024 0 Comments

 Hello folks,

Hope you have an extraordinary day.I am back with another short story.

Many times we try to Imitate others, thinking its too easy to copy them rather than being our own unique self......

And here comes our short story.....

Long ago, a hawk lived on the top of a hill.

At the foot of the hill there was a banyan tree on which a crow used to perch everyday.

 The crow was very foolish.

 He would imitate everyone.

The hawk atop the hill would fly down everyday in search of food.

The crow watched the hawk circling in the air for long hours and swooping down when he saw his prey.

The hawk gifted with eyes that could see long distances would spot his prey from the hill top and then fly down to pounce upon the prey.

The crow watched the hawk thinking, “Hunh! If the hawk can do that, I too can. What does he think? One day, I will show the hawk that I can do the same thing."

A few days later, as the hawk was circling in the air, the crow decided to do the same.

Suddenly a baby rabbit came out of the bushes.

The hawk saw it and the crow too saw the rabbit.

Before the crow could move, the hawk swooped down, caught hold of the rabbit in his strong sharp talons and flew away.

“Swoosh!" was all the crow heard as the hawk disappeared in the sky with his prey.

“Hmmph! That is no great skill," thought the crow, angrily.

Next moment he spotted a big fat mouse coming out of a hole.

Without wasting time, the crow swooped down. Like the hawk he tried to catch the mouse in his claws.

But the mouse saw the crow and moved away, the crow crashed against the hill.

“Eeeaaa!" cried the crow in pain.

Just then the hawk came flying down.

“I hope, now you know it is not easy to hunt and it is not easy to imitate, either," said the hawk and flew away.

There after, the crow never imitated any one in its life.

It lived happily with the god-given abilities.

THE END.

BE YOUR OWN UNIQUESELF!!!
